BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, has unveiled a groundbreaking new electric vehicle platform that aims to eliminate charging anxiety once and for all. Promising energy replenishment speeds comparable to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, the newly introduced Super e-Platform brings a series of cutting-edge technologies that set global benchmarks in the mass-production EV ecosystem.
The core components of the Super e-Platform — including the electric motor, electronic control system, and battery — have been fully upgraded from previous generations. This platform achieves a charging power of one megawatt (1,000kW), the highest ever for mass-produced vehicles. In practical terms, it can add two kilometers of range per second, delivering the world’s fastest charging performance for a production vehicle: a rapid five-minute charge is enough to gain an impressive 400 kilometers of driving range.
The architecture features a powerful 580kW (790 horsepower) electric motor, enabling a top speed of over 300 km/h in the first two models that adopt the platform — the HAN L and TANG L — which are initially intended for the Chinese market. This remarkable speed and acceleration are made possible by a next-generation electric motor capable of spinning at up to 30,000 rpm, setting a new industry standard for mass-produced vehicles.
During the unveiling event in Shenzhen, Wang Chuanfu, Chairman of the BYD Group, emphasized that this innovation directly addresses one of the last major concerns for EV users. “To completely eliminate charging anxiety,” he said, “our goal is to make EV charging as fast as refueling a gasoline-powered car — achieving true fuel-electric parity in charging speed.”
To accomplish this, the charging process must integrate both ultra-high voltage and high current. The Super e-Platform is the world’s first mass-produced passenger car platform with an all-domain 1kV high-voltage architecture, meaning this level of voltage is applied across all components — including the battery, motor, power supply, and air conditioning system.
Another major innovation introduced is BYD’s Flash Charging Battery, which features an ultra-fast ion channel from the battery’s anode to cathode. This allows for a maximum charging current of 1,000A and a charging rate of 10C — both unprecedented figures in the mass EV market.
To support this level of performance, BYD has also developed and begun mass production of a new generation of silicon carbide (SiC) power chips for the automotive sector, with a rated voltage of up to 1,500V. These are the industry’s first mass-produced SiC power chips with the highest voltage rating ever recorded to date.
1MW Charging Requires Matching Power Chargers
Ultra-fast charging technology calls for equally advanced charging stations to fully unleash its potential. During the same event, Mr. Lian Yubo, Executive Vice President of BYD and President of the Automotive Engineering Research Institute, announced that BYD has developed the industry’s first fully liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging terminal system, capable of delivering a peak power output of 1,360 kW.
Looking ahead, BYD plans to build more than 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across China. Beyond its own charging network, the company has also developed an innovative “dual-gun charging” technology. This breakthrough enables existing fast chargers to be seamlessly upgraded into ultra-fast or even flash chargers. This intelligent boosting solution — a global first — is designed to be compatible with public charging infrastructure, making high-speed charging more accessible in various locations.
BYD believes that this synergy between its proprietary charging terminals, existing infrastructure, and its pioneering Super e-Platform architecture is redefining electric mobility. These advancements strengthen China’s position as a global leader in electric vehicle technology.
