- The one-millionth DOLPHIN SURF rolls off the production line in Xi’an, China
- The production milestone was achieved just 27 months after the model’s initial launch
- The DOLPHIN SURF becomes the fastest-selling vehicle in the history of the A00 segment
BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, has officially celebrated the production of the one-millionth DOLPHIN SURF, setting a new benchmark in the compact electric vehicle segment.
Known as the SEAGULL in China and the DOLPHIN MINI in Latin America, the DOLPHIN SURF has redefined the global consumer experience in the compact EV category, offering cutting-edge technology and striking design in a package that makes no compromises on equipment or safety. The one-millionth unit rolled off the production line at BYD’s Xi’an plant just 27 months after mass production began, making it the fastest-selling model in the history of its class.
Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, stated:
“Since its launch, the DOLPHIN SURF has set new benchmarks and records, having topped monthly sales in its segment more than 20 times in just over two years. During its recent European debut, we described it as a global ‘star’—a true superstar—breaking down barriers to the adoption of sustainable mobility. We are thrilled to now see one million units on the roads worldwide. Whether you know it as the SEAGULL, the DOLPHIN MINI, or the DOLPHIN SURF, its recipe for success is simple: an affordable, zero-emissions vehicle that is practical and versatile for daily urban use and beyond, incorporating all of BYD’s cutting-edge technologies.”
The success of the DOLPHIN SURF has played a key role in the growth of the global compact EV market. Its recent introduction to Europe—where new energy vehicles currently account for just 9% of segments A and B—is expected to further accelerate the adoption of sustainable mobility across the continent.
Measuring 3,990mm in length, 1,720mm in width, and 1,590mm in height, the DOLPHIN SURF offers dimensions and maneuverability that make it ideal for narrow urban streets and tight parking spaces. Meanwhile, BYD’s smart application of the e-Platform 3.0 provides interior space and trunk capacity comparable to larger vehicle segments, making it an excellent choice as a single all-purpose vehicle for professionals and small families alike.
The base Active version of the DOLPHIN SURF combines a 30kWh battery with a 65kW (89 hp) electric motor, and is priced at €20,990 in Cyprus.
The Boost version features the same motor output with a larger 43.2kWh battery, offering a range of 322 km (WLTP combined cycle) and up to 502 km in urban conditions, priced at €23,990.
The top-tier Comfort version pairs the larger battery with the most powerful motor in its class (115kW – 157 hp / 220Nm), achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 9.1 seconds, at a price of €25,990. All prices include the “Electric Launch Bonus” provided by the Alpan Group. Additionally, eligible buyers can benefit from a further €9,000 reduction through the Cyprus Government’s Electric Mobility Incentive Scheme.
Regardless of trim level, every DOLPHIN SURF comes equipped with a comprehensive list of standard features:
a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment display, rear parking sensors and reverse camera, LED daytime running lights, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, NFC-enabled smart key with keyless start, adaptive cruise control, air conditioning, and electrically adjustable mirrors. Boost versions add electric front seat adjustment, rain sensors, electrically folding mirrors, and larger 16-inch alloy wheels. The Comfort version further includes a 360-degree camera, LED headlamps, rear privacy glass, exterior ambient lighting, heated front seats, and wireless smartphone charging.
